Today I wanted to talk about – what you focus on is what you get out of life.
I’d like to share a story that I read about an old Indian Chief who was out with his Grandson walking in the Woods. The Indian Chief is trying to tell his Grandson the basic truths about life. So, he told him about two wolves that are in a big fierce battle with each other.
One of the wolves is good and believes everything that is good in life. He believes in honesty and joy and happiness.
And the other Wolf is bad. He believes in evil, badness, deception and bad pride. The Indian Chief tells his Grandson that this is a battle that is going on inside ourselves all of the time.
The Grandson thinks about this for a while and he said to his Grandfather, “Which one wins?” and the Grandfather says, “The one you feed.”
You can equate this to the fight between drinking alcohol and not drinking alcohol and the one that is always going to win is the one that you feed.
If you feed your alcohol wolf then it is the alcohol wolf that is going to build, the habit is going to grow. Every time you take a drink of alcohol that habit will grow and grow. Every time we don’t feed the alcohol wolf and you feed the non alcohol wolf instead, then that’s the one that’s going to grow.
It’s the same thing with anything in life. What you focus on is what you get. It’s why I say that one of the biggest things that you can bring into your own life, when you are trying to quit drinking or trying to get rid of any other habit in your life, is to exchange one habit with another or have something in your future that’s pulling you forwards, pulling you away from the habit of drinking.
For me I’ve always said it was my Son but I also had many other things that I wanted to try and do in my life and one of those things was to write full time.
I’m sort of doing that now. I’m doing a lot of this stuff and I like doing this side of it as well, it’s just a different area that has branched off from the one to write which I really enjoy.
So, I’m focusing on something in my future, something that is away from the alcohol, something that is always going to leave the battle behind me. I don’t mean to say that has to give alcohol any power, it hasn’t got any power, it’s the behaviour.
If you can think the good wolf and the bad wolf as being the good behaviour you want to have in your life and the bad behaviour you want to leave behind, it’s as simple as that.
If you have any questions, please leave them down below. If you have any suggestions about videos you’d like to see, then please leave a comment as well.
Take care of yourself, stay safe and keep the alcohol out of your mouth.
“If you focus on results you will never change, if you focus on change you will get results”
Until next time…
Onwards and Upwards!
