How’re you doing? I’m Kevin O’Hara for alcoholmastery.com.
Today’s video is about success in your quitting alcohol journey doesn’t happen by chance.
The habit of drinking alcohol doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time to build. And it doesn’t happen by chance. You have to deliberately put the alcohol into your mouth over and over. If you don’t do this, no alcohol habit will ever develop.
It’s the same with quitting alcohol. It takes time to break down any habit and it’s not going to happen by chance. It too takes deliberate action on your part.
Anything that happens in your life, whether it’s quitting alcohol, or another habit or doing anything in your life, it doesn’t happen by chance.
You generally put yourself in a position where it’s going to happen for you.
Quitting drinking alcohol is something that has to be done today, has to be done tomorrow, the next day and the next day.
The only way you stop drinking forever is to not drink alcohol forever.
I know that sounds like a daunting task, but that’s not how we do it.
We don’t start out thinking that way because forever might be a year or sixty years.
I hope it’s another 80 years for me and you. But, it’s done step by step.
It’s a moment by moment and hour by hour thing.
At the beginning, this is all difficult.
Even the moments and the minutes are difficult.
Even going to sleep at night, you don’t get a break because your sleeping pattern is interrupted because you’re not getting any alcohol that’s knocking you out and giving you that unconsciousness for that period of time.
You have to put up with it.
It’s a discomfort that lasts only as long as your body is incapable of going to sleep.
Then, you’re going to get a better sleep than you’ve had in a long time, especially since you started drinking, because alcohol drinking doesn’t give you a good sleep.
So in order to succeed at this, understand that it’s your responsibility.
Believe that you can do this, and find a solution to any problem you have in your life.
Any problem you will almost ever likely have is going to have a solution.
It’s up to you to find the solution and to implement it in your life.
It doesn’t matter if the problem is big or small.
Sometimes a small problem can give as much of a headache as a big problem.
The process is the same.
You have to understand the problem, the solution, find the solution and implement it.
That’s what it boils down to.
Each time you find an excuse for not doing something, you lose a bit of your own self-respect, integrity, and power to change things for yourself.
You’re weakening yourself in the long run.
Ask yourself what is stopping you from quitting drinking.
Is it an excuse you’re making?
Is this just one excuse after another that you’re making.
You know that the only thing stopping you is the fact that you keep picking up the bottle, keep picking up the glass, keep pouring in swallow after swallow.
That’s the only thing that matters.
Everything else is solvable once you stop doing that.
Every time you use an excuse, it becomes a part of your rhetoric, who you are, and the ritual.
It becomes a ritual in and of itself.
As soon as you think of why you can’t do this, you automatically think of an excuse.
It becomes a part of your thinking, behaviour and habit.
It becomes a habit to make excuse after excuse.
Stop yourself.
It’s these excuses you have to stop doing.
It’s simple to quit drinking.
You’re blessed with the same 24 hours that everyone else has. You don’t get any more or less.
It’s what you choose to do with that time that matters the most; how you choose to fill that time up; whether you choose to make excuses or to actually change the behaviour.
To do or not to do.
It’s completely up to you.
It’s your choice.
Karma to me is something we all have.
It’s the fact that you are where you are because of all the decisions you’ve ever made in your life.
So, all the thoughts, decisions and actions you’ve taken, that’s how you are where you are today.
Our future karma is based on the thoughts, choices, decisions and actions you take right now.
If you make the same choices, don’t expect different results because that’s what you’re going to get over and over, the same result.
Instead of a journey of upwards and onwards, you will be going backwards and downwards.
So, a quick recap: you’re responsible for everything that happens in your life whether you admit it or not; all the thoughts, actions, excuses, they are all your choices.
You are where you are today because of all those excuses you made.
Everyone has the same 24 hours a day.
Remember your karma, that you are where you are today because of the actions you took in the past, and you will be where you will be tomorrow because of all the choices and excuses you make now.
Don’t expect a different outcome if you make the same excuses.
