Stressed Without Distress – Introduction

Welcome to the first video of the new Alcohol Mastery course Stress Without Distress

Stress is one of the most common themes I come across which sometimes can prevent people from being able or being willing to quit drinking.

It can also play around with people who are having difficulties in sticking to their new journey.

So when I was looking for a topic for making a new free video course, stress in it’s many forms, came out on top.

We all have stress, to one degree or another.

But like everything that I teach on Alcohol Mastery, there is a large element of self-control over the type of stress you feel, the intensity of that stress, how you deal with it, and how it evolves as part of your everyday life.

What to Expect from the Stress Without Distress Course

This is just an introductory video to let you know about the course and what you can expect from the course over the coming weeks.

So far I’ve about 20 topics that I want to talk, so I’ll make a video for each of them.

Each video is going to be between 5 and 10 minutes long, although if you’re familiar with Alcohol Mastery videos, you’ll know that I’ve a tendency to ramble so a few of them are going to go over that mark, but I’ll try and keep them as much to the point as I can.

I’ll be posting a new video each Thursday on the website and on Youtube.

At the end of each video, I’ll be you what the next video is going to be about and where you can click to get that video.

Because the videos are only going to be posted once a week you won’t be able to click on the link until the next video is up on the following Thursday, if you understand what I mean.

It’s going to take a while to make the videos and get the whole thing published on alcoholmastery.com and Youtube, but as time goes on, I think the videos will provide a great resource for anyone looking to understand their stress in general and some specifics on how to deal with stress without using alcohol or any other drug.

Who is Stress Without Distress for?

Because stress is such an important and everyday part of our lives, and a very misunderstood part of our existence, I think that everyone can find some value in the course, whether you’re quitting alcohol or not.

I’m going to start the course off by looking at stress in general, examining a few different definitions of stress, and because everyone experiences stress in a different way, I’ll be taking a look at stress from your point of view, from the individual point of view.

Then I’m going to talk about the different types of stress and the difference between stress, anxiety, and worry. We’ll look at the symptoms of stress, what happens in your body and mind when you feel stressed out, and some of the major causes of stress in our lives.

I want to look at how stress can induce good and bad habits, how it can affect your health, and more importantly, depending on your mindset, how stress can help you to live a more productive and longer life.

In some of the later videos, I’m going to look at a few different ways of dealing with stress in the short term and the long term.

It’s All About You!

The main thing I wanted to focus on throughout the course is to help you to look at your stress in a different way, how to uncover the things that are causing you bad stress, how to redefine that stress, and what you can do to deal with that stress without resorting to using any drugs.

Now before I finish this video, I’d like to ask you if there is anything you’d like to see covered in this course. The more input I can get here, the more helpful to you the course content will be. Leave a comment below the video or send me an email at kevin@alcoholmastery.com with all your stress related suggestions.

In the next video, I’m going to be looking at the question What is Stress? Once the video has been posted you can click on the link below.

If you like the idea of this course you can tap the like button, if that’s your thing. As usual, let me know if you have any questions at all and until next time I’m Kevin O’Hara for alcoholmastery.com, Onwards and Upwards.

    Hi Kevin,
I always enjoyed your walking rambling videos. I don’t think you ramble at all.
Looking forward to your next videos.

Hi Kevin. I’m going through a marital separation atm and this is due to my drinking. Basically I’m now on a new path to an alcohol free life but I’m so upset that’ I’ve caused all this grief that I just want to drink myself to death. It’s a case of too little too late. How am I able to cope with knowing I’ve messed things up but beavsue it’s too late to do anything about my marriage I just want to say stuff it all. It might not be a typical stressful situation but if I could find ways of living day to day with my guilt I think I might not revert back to my bad habits.
    Thanks in advance

Hi Kevin, Would appreciate if you would consider doing a video on CBT for alcohol misuse, and one on Mindfulness.
    Regards
    Deb.

I have enjoyed a drink every night for many years and didn’t realise until I stopped drinking just how much anxiety I was covering up with alcohol
Some ideas on how to deal with this excess of anxiety would be helpful
    Thanks

    Hi Kevin

I am very very glad someone has differentiated between stress…anxiety…worry! Brilliant

I am a day to day traveller of CBT, using and incorporating into my life since my wife left for another man. I believed 6 years ago there was a difference in all three…argued for the concept with numerous Phd’s..phsychologists and therapists. I truly hope that everyone that sees and listens to this video know you doing this is a beacon of truth, and knowing and living the difference of these three problems, answers , and relief will unfold.

I enjoy your videos and harken to their truths. I am very glad you came to your Robert Frost moment in the woods. We will all benefit from it.
