Quitting Drinking Alcohol and Boredom | How To Beat Boredom | SDA39

by | Stop Drinking Alcohol, Year One | 6 comments

On Stop Drinking Alcohol Week 39 – quitting alcohol and boredom, I highlight some of the changes to the way I’m putting together the videos. Each of the video’s is shorter because of I don’t think most people have the time or the inclination to go through long videos trying to find what they want to watch.

I also talk about the reason I’ve missed a couple of weeks along the way, skipping a couple of the Stop Drinking Alcohol video’s.

More about my weight loss, how it doesn’t really affect me much these days, just part of the process of getting well.

I also talk about how boredom affected my life before I quit and how I cope with boredom now.

    Hi Kev,

    Enjoyed your video, thank you.

In regards to weight and health, watched a video by Joe Cross. Fat, sick and nearly Dead.

    Inspiring .

Hi Kevin. Wanted to thank you very much for sharing your insights and story. I’m similar to you, 54 Irish guy living in Australia. Have been drinking far too much for far too long. Just saw a video of where you say your inspiration was to be a better dad – I have a beautiful 7 year old boy and I want to be a much better dad. Today I have burned the bridges. Thanks again – you have been a brilliant help. 🙂

    Hi Kevin,

Wanted to drop a note and say how your videos have helped me following a similar journey but a month or 2 behind – keep them coming.

This video on boredom particularly struck a chord – I have to fly around 2 times a month and find the hardest part not drinking is at the airport on the way back. Usually at the end of the day with a couple of hours to kill …… I find this a real struggle so any advice appreciated!

Hi Colin, thanks for stopping by. I think the end of the day is an especially difficult time for most people who are trying to quit. It’s the time when you’re tired and your willpower is almost always at its lowest. The only thing I can tell you about airports is what I do. I tend to save a really good book. One of those can’t put downers. It’s the only way I can keep myself occupied while not being distracted by people watching (nothing wrong with that either). Working away from home was always a peak time for my cravings. Mostly I would get bored sitting in the guest house and skip down to the local pub.
I’m really glad the video’s are helping you. Keep in touch.
