Short-Term Gratification Versus Long-Term Health and Happiness

by | Stop Drinking Alcohol | 1 comment

What do you replace short-term gratification with? We only have the moment… How do we get away from taking pleasure in that moment and offsetting pleasure for the future? It’s difficult…

The level of short-term gratification that you get from any one thing diminishes over time…It’s another form of tolerance…

When you stop doing these things to yourself with the long-term consequences, your level of contentment and happiness and self-confidence raises… In this video, I talk about some famous studies about happiness. They looked at happiness of lottery winners versus happiness of somebody who had an accident and been left a with a life long disability…

I also talk about the difficulty of raising your level of happiness. I think one of the best chances you have of raising your happiness levels is to get away from the poisoned lifestyle that alcohol drinking behavior delivers.

Until next time…

Dear Kevin, I’m trying desperately to get sober and watching and listening to you has been a large part of my efforts. HOWEVER, the videos you make while you are hiking are IMPOSSIBLE to watch or listen to because we are distracted, annoyed and disgusted by your huffing and puffing (or as you say in Ireland, hoofing and poofing) sniffing and snorting and hacking and gagging. I love the outdoors and appreciate you taking us on a walk with you but can you leave the talking to when you can sit, gather and compose yourself and then record your message for the day. My deepest thanks for your help in my getting sober after 55 years of hard and constant drinking. I’m 67 years old and I don’t want to die a hopeless drunk. Thank you for your willingness to expose yourself to the public in order to help others and at the same time, yourself… Your partner in sobriety from Massachusetts, USA, Steve
