How to teach people not to drink alcohol?

by | Stop Drinking Alcohol | 0 comments

You can start out when kids are very young, and you can just, teach them in schools, you can educate them properly, just like we’re educated not to take some drugs. Heroin and stuff like that is not a widely used drug, like alcohol. I know alcohol is there, it’s in the stores, it’s freely available and all of that kind of stuff, but, one of the best ways is just by behaviour.

Today’s question is: How to teach people not to drink alcohol?

When kids see their parents drinking, when kids see their parents smoking, they are much more likely to do it themselves. The most powerful leadership tool that you have at your disposal is by doing; by showing people. By what you do; not by what you say.

People will believe what you do, rather than what you say. It just has much, much, greater impact on them, when they see you consistently doing something over and over again, and not doing something.

You’re looking at your life in a different way, for instance, they will take much more notice of that than by you telling them not to do something. “Oh, you shouldn’t drink and stuff like that. You’re not allowed to drink until you’re a certain age and blah, de, blah, de blah.” Sets kids up for failure, in later in life.

Einstein said, “That setting an example is not the main means of influencing others; it’s the only means.” So, setting an example is the only means, by which you can influence others.

The best form of teaching others is always going to be behaviour – always going to be behaviour. How many times have you seen somebody doing something and followed suit and sort of said – well if you have respect for them, if you think what they’re doing is right. But generally, with parents and peers, I think and that kind of thing, it’s much better to show.
