Do People Quit Because of Aging or Feeling the Effects of Alcohol?

by | Stop Drinking Alcohol | 6 comments

So, here’s a question I got…Do people drink because they are aged or do people drink because of the way alcohol is making them feel? Alright, let’s go…

I’m Kevin O’Hara for AlcoholMastery.com and a question I had through email…this guy sent me a couple questions and so I thought I’d do a video on each one and the main question was, Do people quit because they are aged or do people quit because of the effects of alcohol and that’s been causing these effects as they have been causing over a life time—not making any sense.

People’s reasons for quitting drinking are many and and varied, you know? I think a lot of people start to get to a certain age in life and start to feel the effects of alcohol, either physically/mentally; they start seeing alcohol as partying and all this kind of stuff. The lifestyle of alcohol is more than anything else what people see as they age and then just can’t keep up with that lifestyle anymore, y’know. They see the cumulative effect of alcohol you know. There are two sides to the coin. People age and they see effects of alcohol as they age. They see the beer belly; they see the weight coming on; they are not able to drink as much as they used to be able to do because the hangovers, the poisoning is lasting a lot longer. So, yeah, I think people get wiser as they get older. They start looking around at what they are doing and they start seeing maybe the amount of years of what has gone before is longer than what they have got left. Supposedly, you know. You never know how much you got left, but maybe that is part of the thinking they start thinking about. “Y’know, I have gone through 40 years of my life, maybe I haven’t got 40 left?”

Maybe it is time to start thinking about different things.

You know, there are different processes, thought processes that go through everyone’s mind. I think age has a lot to do with it. Certainly the effects of alcohol have a lot to do with it and it is something you should be really be thinking about a lot is how alcohol is affecting you as you get older. As I said, you are never too old to quit. You are never too old to stop doing anything and that’s causing you illness or preventing you from doing other things in your life. You should be having the opposite effect. The older you get the more wise you get, supposedly, so it is time to start looking at areas of your life where you can start to see where you can make changes for the positive. See where you can sort of decrease one thing to you can increase the other. So, you take alcohol out of your life and in order to increase your health. You take the alcohol out of your life to increase your money, or increase your brain power, or whatever it is—you know that so that it doesn’t take a genius to work out—You know, put 1 and 1 together or 2 and 2 together and to come up with the reason why you are feeling so bad. You wake up every morning with a hangover and what has caused the hangover.

You do that over and over again over years and years and obviously the hangover is going to get worse or the hangovers are going to get worse and you know that alcohol is the cause of the problems in your life. So, you know, stop drinking the alcohol and all the problems of your life will disappear. It doesn’t take a lot of thinking power to come up with that answer. As I say, there is a lot of reasons why people stop and getting older is one of them and the effects of alcohol are certainly another. But, in general, there is a lot of different reasons why people stop drinking—a lot of different reasons, y’know…cumulative reasons which add up over the years and sort of come to a head and I don’t think anyone comes with just one definitive sort of that ‘this is the one reason I am stopping’. There are a lot of different aspects, you know. Look, leave a comment down below if you have any comments or questions. Go to the website and sign up for the newsletter. You’ll find the audio of this and all the other videos I do underneath the video. You can either download the audio or you can listen to it online.

There is also a transcript of all the videos down below, the video. And so until next time, stay straight, keep the alcohol out of your mouth, keep the frame of mind for quitting drinking and you’ll always get there. If you have your reasons and you understand why you are doing this, then you will have no trouble in quitting. I am Kevin O’Hara for Alcoholmastery.com Onwards and Upwards.

Until next time…

I think both. As you get older, the progression is worse, so you are more apt to lose your balance, or fall. Some very unpleasant things can happen, so I guess some common sense plays into it too. Thanks, Kevin!

You’re right…I read an article the other day that said that more and more elderly people were getting into trouble with alcohol, trying to combat problems in their lives like loneliness and unhappiness.

Another great video Kevin. Short and sweet. I’m hitting day 50 booze free tomorrow which I am delighted about and today I did my first workout of a weekly set of workouts I will be doing. Feeling amazing. Desperately unfit as it’s been quite some time, but I’m taking it slowly. the program I am on it very good and is designed to gradually increase the old fitness.

    Mr. Kevin O’Hara,…..Sir!,

Wanted to express my gratitude for all of your A.M. video’s information and inspiration. I’m now about to reach 200 days free and continuing to discover how insidious alcohol had been in SO MANY major and minor arenas of my life.

Strangely, I’m now finding it almost as difficult to avoid the mental head battle as I did in the beginning. Any special insights on strategies helpful to sustain would be appreciated.

    Again, With Great Gratitude!, Bill
