You Have To Be 100% Committed To Quit Drinking-99% Is Not Good Enough

by | Stop Drinking Alcohol | 4 comments

“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you committed to doing something, you accept no excuses, only results” Kenneth Blanchard

There’s no point in going into this new journey if you not gonna take it seriously. You have to be 100% committed from the beginning. 99% is just not enough because that 1% that you’re missing will always be the part that looks for an escape route, a way out, or an excuse… Commitment will keep you going through the toughest of times because there is just no way you are going to back out!

Hi,I’m Kevin O’Hara for alcoholmastery.com.

How much commitment do you need to quit drinking alcohol?

50% commitment will not do.

What about 60%? or 90%? 99.9%?

The only way you’re going to do this successfully in the long run, is to have 100% commitment.

If you don’t have 100% commitment, you’re kidding yourself.

You have to say to yourself: This is it. This is what I am now. This is where I am in my life. This is where alcohol has brought me. This is where the behaviour has brought me. This is the line in the sand, and once I step across that line, I will never ever drink another drop of alcohol again no matter what. No matter what discomfort comes my way, no matter how shitty I feel during the day, no matter how unrelaxed I feel in the evening, no matter how much I get into bed at night and can’t sleep, I’m not going to stop doing what I’m doing. I’m never going to take another drop of alcohol again.

Once you have that attitude, you understand that it’s 100% your responsibility to do it.

100% everything that happens, whether you take a drink or not, it’s your responsibility.

It is in your power to do it.

There’s no one else that takes the alcohol drink and pours it in your mouth.

You are the only person.

When you say ‘I can’t help it’, you can.

You’re the only one that can help it.

If you can’t, who can?

There’s no point in asking me what to do.

If you don’t do it yourself, then who can?

I can only help you with what to do now after you’ve stopped it.

I can only help you deal with things, how to deal with the cravings, the social life, and the assholes that are trying to get you back on the alcohol.

How to deal with your environment.

But I can’t help you with that one thing.

It is completely up to you.

If you keep putting the alcohol into your mouth, no one can help you.

Without you doing that, there is no drinking.

If you don’t put the alcohol into your mouth, there is no problem.

With alcohol at least.

There are many areas of your life that might need to be dealt with.

But you have the capacity to deal with them in your own mind. Nothing I can say to you is going to change that ability.

You’ve got all the power to deal with whatever needs to be dealt with.

You just need to ask the right questions and look in the right places within yourself.

It’s your responsibility to deal with your leisure life, your spiritual life, your job, your relationships.

You’ve got to take 10% responsibility for how you feel about yourself emotionally, how you feel about drinking emotionally or not drinking.

That’s your responsibility.

How you feel physically, how you can improve that feeling, how you can improve the health, it’s your responsibility.

Your health is 90% down to you.

There’s a lot of stuff with your health that is going to happen regardless, but it’s going to happen regardless anyway.

Regardless of whether you drink or not drink.

But in most aspects of health, alcohol drinking is going to exacerbate any problem.

It’s going to speed it up, and its 100% going to cause you problems.

You have to take 100% responsibility for any of your instant gratifications.

Whether it’s drug use, eating the wrong type of food, sitting down on the couch when you know you should be doing something else that is going to improve your life.

That’s 100% responsibility for all the decisions you’re going to make.

Being 100% responsible is a fact of life.

You’re never going to get away from that because no one else is going to take responsibility for you.

It’s all down to you having 100% commitment.

It’s difficult.

You have to be committed in order to move forward and achieve things.

If that’s what it takes, then do it.

If you’re not 100% committed, it leaves he door open to excuses, and the Gremlin voice inside going ‘leave it off till tomorrow’.

Once you’re 100% committed, you flush out the Gremlin.

You bring him out into the open, and then all that bullshit voice that tells you you can’t do it, it becomes vulnerable and frail.

You take away its power by taking it into the light of day.

It’s when you leave it underneath the wraps of your subconscious, that’s when it has all the power.

Because, a lot of the time, the Gremlin voice sounds logical.

It’s giving you logical arguments.

They’re not stupid arguments.

Stupid in the sense that they’re never going to progress you forward, but its a lot easier to blame something or somebody else in your youth or childhood or job.

You begin to think: Alcohol is talking to me. What can I do? I just can’t get away from it.

It’s a fact.

You cant get away from it.

You either work with that or you allow that to work against you.

There’s no one else that can change anything about what you do except you.

The only person standing in your way of getting what you want in your life is you.

The only person in your way of quitting drinking is you.

The only person standing in your way of achieving the goals you want to achieve, is you.

The only person who in general 90% of the time, stands in the way of your good health, is you.

The only person standing in your way of having a happy life is you.

You’re your biggest obstacle, you and your thoughts.

Those thoughts turn into actions, and then more negative thoughts, and more negative actions.

You do this to yourself over and over again.

The way to reverse that is to start out with a positive thought, and then do a positive action and allow it reciprocate into another positive thought.

That in turn causes a positive action.

It’s the only way to bring yourself out of the spiral is slowly.

The only way to stop yourself from drinking is not to drink it now.

You don’t lift the glass.

You don’t put it into your mouth.

You don’t swallow it.

You don’t buy any more.

You don’t have it in your house.

You’re 100% committed. There’s not any more alcohol passing through those lips, regardless of whether it’s there in front of you.

You can’t ever have an alcohol problem unless you physically lift the glass, lift it up to your lips, tip the glass into your mouth and swallow the contents.

That’s the only way it can pass into your body.

Unless you start injecting it which is a whole different story.

But it all boils down to you.

Nobody else is going to help you in this life the way you need to be helped.

Because no one else can help you in that way. Most of the time, I’m willing to help.

But if I see that they’re not willing to help themselves, how can I help them?

How am I going to put my effort into these people when they’re not putting any effort into themselves?

It just doesn’t make any sense.

I’m not talking about people watching this.

If someone is willing to help themselves and put in the effort that it takes to help themselves, then I’ll do all I can to help them.

But, at the end of the day, you’re the only person that can help yourself and stop the alcohol going in.

Have 100% commitment from Day 1.

That’s it There’s a line in the sand and I’m stepping across it. From now on, there will never be another drop of alcohol passing these lips.

I’m going to do everything in my power to put as many obstacles between me and my old alcohol drinking habit.

I’m going to do everything in my power to chase the things I want, which are also going to put more obstacles in the way of my alcohol drinking.

I’m going to do that over and over again until I no longer think about alcohol and that behaviour.

Until I no longer have that type of instant gratification thinking. I’ll think about what to do to improve myself over and over again.

That’s the way forward.

Till next time, I’m Kevin O’Hara for alcoholmastery.com.

Keep the alcohol out of your mouth.

Its the only thing you can do that will positively influence everything else.

Because if you don’t, not only are you stopping yourself from progressing, you’re pushing yourself backwards because you’re giving yourself this idea that you can’t do it.

You’re reinforcing that in your mind.

And as long as you keep doing that, it’s going to make it more difficult for you to move forward.

It’s a simple task. Do not put the alcohol into your mouth.

UNLESS THERE IS COMMITMENT, THERE ARE ONLY HOPES AND PROMISES BUT NO PLANS.

Until next time…
Onwards and Upwards!

Great video Kevin. Kind of like a great Mom or Dad inspiring a reluctant and recalcitrant child to embrace and make friends with committment, courage and results – one step at a time. Everyone needs this kind of message from time to time. Today you are the delivery angel. You are doing a great job in touching the lives of others.
